Kindle offers

The Paperwhite is our favorite Kindle (and favorite e-reader in general). The 6.8-inch screen is brighter than previous years and covered with thinner bezels, and it’s deceptively fast. It is easy to hold with one hand while sitting in the bath or tub (it is waterproof!) This price is for 8 gigabytes of storage, but there is also a 16-gig version. Signature Edition is discounted to $140 (50% off). That one has 32 gigs (great for audiobooks), warm lighting, and auto-adjust brightness (8/10, WIRED recommends).
The Paper White Children’s Edition is also our Kindle pick for little ones. You get the same features as the standard model, including waterproofing. Since this is a kids model, you also get a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+, a kid-friendly content library with parental controls and a two-year no-questions-asked replacement warranty against cases and damage. You can choose from 8 to 16 GB of storage. There’s a cheaper kids’ model for $80 ($40 off), but that one isn’t waterproof.
If you don’t need waterproofing, you can get the more expensive base-model Kindle for $80 right now. It has a smaller 6-inch screen and a smaller body — 4.3 inches wide — compared to the Paperwhite’s 4.9 inches. It doesn’t have a warm light and can’t automatically adjust the front light, but it does the essentials: you can easily read e-books with little noise.

This is the most common selling price we see for this streaming device. Amazon Prime TV offers the most content, but you can stream from all the major services like Netflix and Hulu. If you have the previous Fire TV Stick 4K, you don’t need to upgrade, but this higher version adds features like picture-in-picture to see who’s ringing your video doorbell while it’s overclocking. The wonderful Mrs. Maisel. The 4K Max is available at Target for the same price.
If you want a tablet for regular use and prefer not to spend a small fortune, the Fire HD 8 (6/10, WIRED Review) will satisfy. This 2022 model offers a faster processor than its predecessor, enough to run many apps and games without fuss. The screen is still a little low and narrow, so if you need more screen real estate, check out the Fire HD 10 (see below).
Like Amazon’s Kindle Kids Edition, the Kids Edition has the same features as the regular Fire HD 8 except it’s housed in a rugged case, comes with a one-year Amazon Kids+ subscription, and has a two-year warranty.
This is our favorite Amazon Fire tablet (7/10, WIRED Recommends). The Fire HD 10 has a bigger and brighter screen than its siblings, so it’s great for watching movies. If you’re already an Alexa fan, Amazon’s voice assistant is here. However, if you want to work on this, don’t think of using any Google apps, as they are not supported (there is a workaround). The 32-GB Fire HD 10 is discounted from Target. If you can spend a little more, the Fire HD 10 Plus is marked down to $120 (60 off). It adds one more gigabyte of RAM (4 instead of 3) and wireless charging support.

The Pixel 6A (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is our favorite Pixel for many people. Although this phone can occasionally reach $449, it often goes up to $299. It has old camera hardware, but still takes good pictures for the money. It’s powerful enough to run any app and game, the AMOLED screen is great to look at, and it feels worth several hundred dollars more.
If you can spend a little more, the Pixel 7 (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is one of the best values around. It’s not too big and has a 90-Hz AMOLED screen. If you like fans, or like pink, brown and white noise (no chirping birds here) to sleep, this is our favorite sound machine. It has a good volume range and a 60 minute timer. The LectroFan is also small so it won’t crowd small bedside tables.
Keurigs don’t make gourmet coffee, but if you’re not picky or want something for those mornings you can’t do more than insert a pod, this is a good choice. It takes up very little room and comes in lots of great colors, including a stunning hunter green.
Digital frames have come a long way since the early 2000s, and I love having one in my home. Nixplay makes great options. We prefer the 10.1-inch frame, but this 8-inch model is just as beautiful as the others, and you can choose between gold or silver jewelry.
