4-H members show off their fashion skills – Sterling Journal-Advocate

Patriotic tops and bottoms, a prom dress and a Grinch costume were among the styles on display at this year’s Logan County Fair 4-H Fashion Revue held Friday night in the Dorothy Corsberg Theater at Northeastern Junior College.

Participants in four divisions decorated or constructed a garment and then modeled it. Judging was based on the model’s posture, balance, grooming, attitude and attire. This includes the fit to the pattern, the choice of texture, color and style, fit and accessories.

The judges for the event were Sharon Blackham and Andrea Young, and the emcee was Heather Brungardt.

This year’s winner in the Junior Division was Remington Gerlach, who was ready to break out in her printed outer space skirt that she made in her first year of clothing construction. She chose the 100% cotton fabric because it looked fun and was a different color than most of the other clothes in her wardrobe. As a gift from her grandmother and great-grandmother, who helped her sew the skirt, they made her a reversible vest and headband to match the skirt.

Reserve Champion in the Junior Division was Mya Friend. She wore a skirt and top that she sewed for her freshman 4-H sewing construction project. To make the dress she used a 100% cotton brown material with small red and yellow flowers to match her personality. She paired it with her favorite western belt and cowboy boots, a turquoise butterfly necklace and turquoise earrings and a bracelet.

Other competitors in the Junior Division were Paisley Morgan, Lilly Johnson and Brennyn Kailey.

The Intermediate Division Champion was Taylor Tribbett, who wore the outfit she created for her first year competing in your new style. She decided to recreate a pair of jeans with a “Proud to be an American” theme and paired them with a pair of red, white and blue star earrings, American flag sunglasses, an American T-shirt and white sandals.

Reserve Intermediate Champion was Piper Withers, who modeled a Grinch costume she made for her costume design project.

The suit was made up of separate parts so it would be easier to put on and take off. She attached pieces of fabric to the bottom of her pants to cover her shoes and then added elastic so she could slip her pants over her shoes and they could stay in place as she walked. For the hooded top, she added a pocket inside to fill with padding for a fuller tummy.

Other competitors in the Intermediate Division were Dakota Coggin and Zaly Blecha.

The Senior Division Champion was Ashton Nichols, who modeled her project in your style. She painted red and white stripes and white stars on a pair of light colored jeans and to go with them she got a white t-shirt and applied the letters USA on it in red fabric and also painted custom boots and shoes with lines to match. Nichols accessorized her look with a patriotic bracelet and simple earrings.

Reserve Champion in the Senior Division was Ayla Baney. She designed a pair of Tiger jeans to wear to Sterling High School football games and spirit days, with orange and black paw prints on the pockets, her graduation year on the legs and a bright orange ribbon along the seams. Baney paired the jeans with a black T-shirt, diamond earrings and tennis shoes.

Both Nichols and Baney will represent Logan County at the Colorado State Fair.

Other competitors in the Senior Division included Natalie Adels and Mattea Pelton.

The Encore Division champion was Withers, who wore a long-sleeve shirt with darts paired with a gray cardigan, ripped skinny jeans and a pair of dusty gray knee-high boots with fun leather designs. She completed the outfit with gold jewellery.

Reserve Champion in the Encore Division was Ashton Nichols, who modeled a dress given to her by a close friend.

The elegant royal blue floor-length dress features a sweetheart neckline with a criss-cross bodice, spaghetti straps and back zipper closure. The flowing, high-waisted A-line skirt was covered in layers of glittery tooling. She teamed it with a pair of chunky high-heeled sandals with silver glitter, sparkly silver earrings and a simple diamond necklace.

Other competitors in the Encore Division included Adels, Baney, Sarah Roys, Pelton, Tribbett, Friend, Kailey and Gerlach.

Along with the models in the judged categories, the 2022 rodeo members and 2023 competitors were also featured in the show.
