YORKTOWN, Ind. – Kiah Parrott played a phenomenal three rounds on her way to a tournament victory in the Brittany Kelly Cardinal Classic at The Players Club at Woodland Trails. Parrott broke BSU’s 36-hole score yesterday and followed that by breaking the 54-hole record by seven strokes.
“Winning the tournament this week means the world, especially because it was our home tournament and the first home tournament I’ve played in,” Parrott said. “It’s also bittersweet to win an event named after such a special lady who made a huge impact on the game of golf and at Ball State. Ever since she was recruited by Ball State, Brittany Kelly was someone I immediately looked up to and won. something with her name is special! I knew it was time to win, it was definitely overdue and I played some of the best golf I’ve ever played, if not the best, this week! For the record, I honestly had no idea about it until my dad mentioned it to me after I played today. But breaking a record is always very special and something I try to do and will continue to try to do. There will be more records to come. they will come!”
Parrott became the first golfer since Sydney Anderson in 2017 to win an individual title. She earned her first tournament win in her first home tournament appearance. She recorded a 72 (E) for the final round with two birdies on the day. She led the field with 14 birdies for the tournament. Her three-round score of 207 (-9) set a new Ball State record for a 54-hole score, which she beat by seven strokes.
“I’m really proud of Kiah,” said the coach Andrew Cameron. “She’s a fierce competitor with a tireless work ethic, so it’s great to see her work pay off. It was great to ride the last round with her as she put the finishing touches on a dominant win. “
Sarah Gallagher posted a career-best 71 (-1) in the final round, which jumped her nine spots on the leaderboard to sixth for a personal-best finish. She compiled 12 birdies over two days and tied for the third most birdies for the tournament. She finished with a three-round score of 219 (+3).
“I thought our younger players showed improvement this week, so that’s something we can build on,” coach Andry said.
Paige Hillman, who competed as an individual, finished tied for 43rd with a 232 (+16). She collected four birds for the tournament. She posted a final round score of 80 (+8).
With two birds a day, Jasmine Driscoll gave a score of 78 (+6). She moved up one spot in the rankings into a tie for 47th with a three-round score of 233 (+17). She tallied eight birdies for the tournament.
Peyton Broce posted a final round score of 79 (+7) with two birdies on the day. She finished tied for 55th at 235 (+19) with seven birdies for the tournament. Madeline Boyd finished the tournament in 58th place. Payton Bennett tied for 68th place.
Ball State takes a week off before heading to Indianapolis for the Butler Fall Invitational at Highland Golf and Country Club on Monday.
