A remote worker’s failure to disclose their location has cost the CEO of a US programming business $500,000.
Alex Atwood of Virginia-based GravyWork learned that the paper began receiving alerts from government associations in Texas and California last year.
He was confused.
One of Atwood’s full-time representatives, a former computer programmer, was found to be working from the states for extensive periods of time without telling him.
Atwood was notified that he would pay fines for forgetting to register his company in Texas and California.
Atwood asserts that his startup owes up to $30,000 in fines and costs. However, he said the real cost was closer to $500,000, representing the time he and his partners spent solving the case.
