LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Lubbock’s small businesses are desperate for customers, reaching out via social media for help.
Next to Wild Lark Books in Lubbock is a sign for a local brewery that has decided to close up shop.
“We really don’t care. “We’re aware of it and we hope that people in Lubbock will be a little more intentional and mindful about going down,” said Brian Van Reenen, owner of the Wild Lark.
The sign highlights the plight of some small businesses.
“He’s noticing that he’s slowing down a little bit,” Van Reenen said.
So, she did what others would do; Access through Facebook. In one post, the store “really needs your support,” she wrote.
“I don’t think we’re seeing that. And I don’t think the businesses around us are seeing that,” Van Reenen said.
But her store isn’t the only one with declining business.
“We’ve been forgotten. We’re completely viable without people, but we can’t survive without you, because it’s our livelihood,” said Destiny Adams, owner of Tumbleweed + Sage Coffeehouse.
Adams used a similar method in Wolfforth. She took to Facebook the next morning when the shop sold coffee for just $6.
“Naturally, what do you have to lose and what is going to happen? And then we were shocked by what happened,” Adams said.
Within half an hour, people were lining up at the shop, making donations. The store had a lot to plan for the return event. Saturday.
However, with the previous controversy, hosting drag shows and passing out contraceptivesIt was in Adams’s mind that people had a little grudge against the store.
“I sat down and thought, is that why we’re late? And then I started seeing other businesses in the area, here in town, that were struggling; Adams said.
So, as others post about struggles over the past few weeks, owners like Van Reenen hope they can get a similar response.
“I think that’s why a lot of our small businesses are where we are, asking community members to be really intentional and involved, because we’re coming into a tough winter after a really tough summer and fall,” Van Renen said.
