Developer Mopeful Games and publisher No More Robot’s humorous, inspired first-person shooter Fashion Police Squad is coming to consoles soon.
Unique first-person shooter The Fashion Police Squad is on its way to the Switch, Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Originally released on PC in August 2022, console gamers can take the fight to lean mode by downloading the retro-inspired FPS starting next month.
Developed by Finnish indie game studio Mopeful Games and published by No More Robots, players take on the role of Sergeant Des as he fights fashion crimes. Armed with clothing-themed weapons like the Justice League and the Tailored Sewing Machine, players will save the city from fashion shenanigans like socks with sandals and ill-fitting suits. PC version i The Fashion Police Squad no “Very positive” reviews on Steam, but overall a completely mixed reaction, with an average score of 69 on Metacritic. The Fashion Police Squad user scores on Metacritic were also middling, with an average of just 7.4/10.
Polarizing or not, The Fashion Police Squad found an audience on the PC. Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4 and PS5 users can play it themselves when the console ports launch on February 2nd. Publisher No More Robots announced the console port of Fashion Police Squad with a new trailer uploaded to YouTube on January 19. While the console release trailer doesn’t have many views yet, time will tell if this cult hit finds success across platforms new.
The roughly one-minute trailer gives viewers a good idea of what to expect from the quirky retro-inspired FPS. Inspired by old shooters like Punishment AND Duke Nukem 3D, The Fashion Police Squad players speed through intricately designed environments while crashing into enemies and dodging projectiles. The difference, of course, is that Sergeant Des’ guns spit style instead of bullets, and enemies dress better instead of dead. The game’s combination of 2D sprites, pixelated textures, and 3D models also gives Fashion Police Squad a unique visual aesthetic to go along with its unusual premise.
The fans of The Fashion Police Squad praise the fun shooter gameplay, creative presentation and deep combat. While some issues are holding the game back, not everyone thinks so The Fashion Police Squad compares favorably to other throwback retro shooters like twilight, The Fashion Police Squad it absolutely has its fans. It also features plenty of internet jokes that some fans will appreciate, even if the humor may wear off in a few years.
Of course, The Fashion Police Squad it is not without its critics. Some players felt the game has unfair difficulty or criticized the repetitive environments and tedious combat encounters. The fact that it has to compete with a new generation of retro-inspired shooters also matters The Fashion Police Squad in a tough spot, and not everyone thinks the game is up to the task. However, console gamers can decide for themselves when the game comes to Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox next month.
The Fashion Police Squad is out now on PC and launches for PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on February 2, 2023.
