Zapata County is set to host the 2023 Governor’s Small Business Summit of Texas.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott this past week announced the 2023 Governor’s Small Business Summit, and Zapata County will be one of the hosts.

According to the governor’s office, the annual conference is hosted in 15 different cities across the state as the Governor’s Small Business Summit aims to connect Texas small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs with the resources and information they need to get started and reach new heights. Zapata will be the final host of the meeting as the governor and various economic development partners meet in the county on Dec. 7, 2023.

The Governor’s Small Business Summit features a variety of sessions that bring together local, state and federal resource partners to provide key insights on critical business topics. The conference gives attendees the opportunity to network with other business owners and meet experts who share timely, useful and actionable advice on a wide range of small business topics.

“Small businesses are the heart of a strong Texas economy,” Abbott said. “More than 95% of Texas businesses are small, and they employ nearly half of all Texans. From our largest urban centers to our small rural communities, the state of Texas is committed to fostering an environment where entrepreneurs have the freedom to aspire, grow and prosper.”

The governor said in his announcement that he wants to continue working with small businesses in every region of the state to ensure they have the tools to succeed “for the Texas of tomorrow, even brighter.”

Feedback from Zapata County has been positive as they welcome the Governor’s Small Business Summit to not only give more attention to small businesses in the area, but to help showcase how small businesses can work in rural areas as well.
