A pavilion in Copenhagen Park in honor of a local businessman

COPENHAGEN, NY (WWNY) – If you’ve driven through Copenhagen recently, you may have noticed a new tent by the bridge.

It is part of the Ted Simmons Riverside Memorial Park, which is dedicated to the memory of famous local businessman Ted Simmons.

On Sunday, Simon’s family, in collaboration with the Copenhagen CARES collaboration, made a dedication to him. Dozens of people came and gathered in the middle of the park to celebrate Simon’s life.

The tent was designed and built by the family, protected by what they call the “Tree of Life”.

Ted Simon’s son, Scott, said the tent was meant not only to honor his father, but to honor all of Copenhagen.

“Anyone in the city, in here, around anyone who wants us to have something dedicated to them is a memorial tree that we have to remember, so it’s our tree of life. This main tree structure holds everything here, our memories, our dreams, the whole building that you want to put on the tree. This tree is for the community,” said Scott Simon.

Simmons said he hopes the pavilion will be a place for people to gather. Anyone who wants a memorial engraving on the tree can reach the Copenhagen CARES cooperation directly.
