Shooting at the camera technology in the “copy city” area
An employee sent to tamper with surveillance cameras in the so-called “Cop City” area says he was fired while on the job. It happened Monday afternoon near a controversial proposed training center for Atlanta first responders at Key Road and Woodham Way.
Atlanta – New details are emerging about a controversial plan to build a training center for first responders in DeKalb County. A man opened fire on an employee sent to fix surveillance cameras in the community in the so-called “Cop City.”
It happened Monday afternoon at Key Road and Woodham Way.
FOX 5 reported on vandals destroying cameras in the area. Neighbors believe it is related to the controversy over the proposed training center.
Mark Bolden is president of the Boulder Walk Homeowner’s Association. He said a Flock Safety technician came to the community to repair the cameras.
“While the technician was outside, they encountered gunfire,” Bolden said. “The shot was fired from within the fence line, about one o’clock in the afternoon, I believe, in broad daylight.”
Video released to FOX 5 shows vandals spraying surveillance cameras and spray-painted obscenities on the property of homeowners in this neighborhood. It sits next to a planned training center for Atlanta police and first responders call it what some call “Cop City.”
The Atlanta Police Foundation plans to build the training center on 85-acres on Key Road. They will preserve the remaining 265 acres as green space. However, many opponents have emerged against the site. They see it as an expansion of the police state. They believe it threatens the Atlanta forest.

DeKalb County Police confirmed finding shell casings in the area. It is unclear if the shooting was related to the ongoing protest.
Homeowners like Marcus Hunter can’t believe what’s happening in his neighborhoods.
“Now that’s the focus. Now the violence is the focus. Now the sabotage is the focus,” Hunter said. “The shot at the technician, I think that takes it to a whole new level.”
Flock, who installed the cameras, would not comment on the current incident.
DeKalb County police said no one was injured and no property was damaged.
The HOA said they are asking the police to step up patrols.
