During the 2020 presidential election, “Real Time” host Bill Maher spoke about the widespread banning of Hunter Biden’s laptop story.

On Friday night’s panel, Maher highlighted controversial comments made by liberal podcaster Sam Harris, who publicly endorsed a “conspiracy” to bury then-candidate Joe Biden’s brewing scandal to defeat President Trump on Election Day.

“Is it okay to plot to take down Trump?” Maher began. “They were talking about Hunter Biden’s laptop, which was a story and now all the mainstream media is finally admitting that it was a true story. It was a real laptop.”

Maher continued: “Look, then, let’s not be a pussy-foot around this; He was selling his father Joe Biden’s influence. I mean, most political kids do, but at least let’s not pretend it’s happening… So it was Hunter Biden’s laptop, even Twitter boss Jack Dorsey said it was wrong… So Sam Harris said it’s appropriate for Twitter and Big Tech executives and press organizations to get in front of Twitter. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime moral emergency, which is Trump. So he’s saying it’s okay to conspire to destroy someone as bad as Trump.

“That’s a bit of a thorny question because after they go down that road – that’s the situation we have in this country, the other side is so evil, there’s something that’s stopping them from getting into office. Is it?” She asked the folder.

Director and liberal activist Rob Reiner responded by ducking the question altogether, telling Maher, “You know what’s not right? Using armed force to kill people in the Capitol, that’s not right.”

“Answer this question!” Maher shouted. “The question is, was it appropriate to bury Hunter Biden—”

“Are you talking about doing that to the press?” Reiner asked.

“And we know for sure that’s what they did?” Reiner responded.

“I don’t know what they did,” Reiner replied.

“I know because you only watch MSNBC,” Maher said.

FBI Officials Slowing Hunter Biden Laptop Investigation After 2020 Election: Wyster

“Basically, the background here is the FBI, I think, basically came to us — some people on our team and said, ‘Hey, just so you know, you’ve got to be on the alert … a lot of Russian propaganda in the 2016 election. We’re on the ad. We are, basically, there’s going to be some sort of dump similar to that. So be alert,” Zuckerberg said. Joe Rogan host.

Zuckerberg insisted that Facebook users were still allowed to share the post on Hunter Biden’s laptop, saying that while their “third-party fact-checking program” was investigating the misinformation, “the level in [the] News Feed was a bit smaller” and “less people saw it, if not more”.

“By what percentage?” Rogan asked.

“I don’t know off the top of my head, but it makes sense,” Zuckerberg replied. But we weren’t as black and white as Twitter. We just kind of thought, hey look, I still see if the FBI is a legal institution in this country, it’s a very professional law enforcement – they will come. Tell us that we need to be careful about something and then I want to take that seriously.

“Did they say you should be especially careful about that story?” Rogan followed.

“No, I don’t remember that specifically, but it basically fits the pattern,” Zuckerberg said.

“None of this is new,” Meta said in a statement. “As Mark has testified before the Senate for two years now, leading up to the 2020 election, the FBI’s concerns about foreign hacking and leaking operations … we take that very seriously, and Mark testified, according to the New York Post story.” We haven’t banned it, we’ve temporarily scaled it down to give our fact-checking partners time to review it.
