Brahmastra swamped with poor reviews; mega spectacle heading for disaster?

Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor’s film Brahmastra had already been facing backlash from various quarters, but after its release, it is now facing poor reviews from critics as well. While the hashtag ‘Boycott Brahmastra’ is still trending on Twitter, a trend along similar lines is also evident on-ground from the tepid response at movie theatres. Soon after the movie hit the screens, people began sharing visuals of empty theatres, while critics posted negative reviews for the film.

Brahmastra gets swamped in negative reviews

Notable movie critics reviewed the film and stated that it did not stand out as expected. As per Rotten Tomatoes, a top critic from The Wrap stated that neither the action scenes nor the musical numbers stood out, and none of the characters or their performers transcends their expected roles. Moreover, Scott Mendelson from Forbes compared the film with Hollywood’s mistakes over the last decade while trying to replicate the success of Marvel movies. An excerpt from the review read, “Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva resembles a checklist of every mistake Hollywood made over the last decade trying to replicate the success of Marvel’s The Avengers.”

On the other hand, Rajya Sabha MP and Senior Supreme Court advocate Abhishek Singhvi took to Twitter and shed light on how in a trilogy film like Brahmastra, only a good script would work. “Hearing very good things about Bhramastra VFX. But given that it’s a trilogy, only a good script will work. Remember all fantasy series like GoT, Harry Potter & Marvel & DC stuff have a strong basis in script,” he stated. Atul Mohan, a movie business analyst shared his review on Twitter stating how the movie failed due to the lack of a good script.

Despite all the hype and overdone promotions by the cast of the film including Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Ayan Mukerji and others, it is quite evident by the unenthusiastic response that Brahmastra got negative reviews from the audience too. While the VFX, cinematography and action sequences depicted in the film received an average response from the audience, they criticised the film for having cringe-worthy dialogues and unrelatable content.

Many moviegoers also opined that the film was disappointing while others stated that the makers wasted a stellar movie cast. They even shared pictures of empty movie theatres that went viral on social media in no time. Take a look at some of the reactions ahead-

Meanwhile, the movie analyst Taran Adarsh also posted a review on Twitter stating that the film was quite disappointing with low content and no soul. He gave the film two stars while stating the film missed an opportunity to be a game changer.
