Breathitt Co. Technology center receives large donation to help with flood recovery

BREATHIT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) – The Breathitt County Area Technology Center was hit hard by flooding. Now, the institution is getting the opportunity to rebuild and buy more equipment for students.

Advance Auto Parts on Wednesday donated $25,000 to help rebuild the center.

Initially, the school contacted Advance Auto Parts to ask if there was anything the company could do to help after the flood. The principal said the total loss, including the building and supplies, was more than a million dollars.

For most students, their workplace is currently a parking lot. The hope is that the $25,000 donation will help purchase more equipment.

“We’re honored to have this as our base, and it’s part of our culture to take care of it,” said Matt Belcher, regional manager of Advance Auto Parts. “I’m excited for me, being from Eastern Kentucky, and we want to find a way and, gosh, what better way? Also, automotive technology is hard to come by these days. Anything we can do to support the effort is wonderful.

The principal said they hope to break ground on a new building on the old site this spring to bring students back to campus.
