Canada-based Transpod is showing off an EV that’s a hybrid of airplanes and trains

Canada-based Transpod will present an electric vehicle that is a hybrid of rail and aircraft. The technology used in the vehicles, called FluxJet, is a contactless power transmission. It also uses a new field of physics called Veil Flux. This makes the vehicle faster than a jet and three times faster than a train.

Designed to operate exclusively on the Transpod line, a super-fast ground transportation system, the new electric vehicle can travel at speeds of more than 1,000 km/h in a protected manner.

The Transpod line is a network system with stations in key locations and major cities. It will have high frequency departures to facilitate fast, safe and affordable journeys. This project is expected to create up to 140,000 jobs during the construction phase. Once operational, the Transpod line is expected to cost passengers 44% less than a plane ticket to travel the corridor. It is also expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by 636,000tpa.

Sebastien Gendron, founder and CEO of Transpod, said, “All the hard work over the past few years has led to this critical moment where the talk becomes reality. The technology is proven, and we have the confidence of investors, governments, and partners to continue pushing forward to better differentiate transportation services.

Financial support

In March this year, Transpod secured $550m in funding from Broughton Capital Group and China-Eastern Materials Importer and Exporter for the ‘Hyperloop’ system between Edmonton and Calgary, Canada. The Transpod line allows trips between Edmonton and Calgary in 45 minutes. Currently, such trips take more than three hours by car.

Bruton Capital Group and China East Resources Import & Export have agreed to provide the financing and arrange a Master Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) arrangement to support the construction of the project. The project is expected to create up to 140,000 jobs, according to a feasibility study.

The study also predicts that the project will add $19.2 billion to the region’s gross domestic product (GDP) during the construction phase. The TransPod line is expected to help commuters get from Calgary to Edmonton in 45 minutes, a trip that currently takes more than three hours by car. In addition, anticipated ridership between Calgary and Edmonton would reduce carbon emissions by 636,000tpa, the feasibility study shows.

Transpod Founder and CEO Sebastien Gendron said, “As the first and only company to secure such financing for a multi-billion dollar pipeline infrastructure project, Transpod is proud of its commitment to growth in Alberta through true innovation and partnership. The construction and operation of the TransPod line will help Albertans move more easily, create new jobs and facilitate investment into the region.
