Community questions tech student complex

LUBBOCK, Texas (KSBD) – Tech Terrace residents attended a community meeting organized by Councilman Mark McBrayer to protest a zoning change in the Tech Terrace neighborhood.

The proposal includes rezoning south of 19th Street at Akron and Boston avenues, including the Godbold Center and Cafe J, to accommodate a 750-bed student complex and parking garage.

Among the battery of questions, residents spoke about the traffic the increase would bring, the “convenience” of the area and convenience for students now forced to drive to campus, as many do. One participant compared the presented complex to the structure found in Soviet society.

Earlier this month, the Lubbock Planning and Zoning Commission voted on a zoning change for this area. He has now decided his claim for compensation next month.
