Congratulations Riverhead Waves 10u travel baseball team, summer league champs

Congratulations to the Riverhead Waves 10u travel baseball team on their second consecutive league championship.

The Waves (15-2, no. 2 seed) beat the Hauppauge Eagles (16-1, no. 1 seed) 11-5 on Aug. 6 to claim the 10u division title in the 2022 Town of Brookhaven Baseball League summer season.

The league’s 10u division had 17 teams. The summer season ran from June through August. Each team played 2-3 games per week.

To qualify for the finals, the Waves beat Pat-Med 10-0 in the first round, East Hampton 4-3 in the second round, Moriches Bay 4-2 in the semi-finals.

The Waves won the 9U fall championship last October.

The team’s final summer record was 16-2. They finished the season with an impressive 12-game winning streak.

“The Waves took control of the (final) game early and never let up,” said head coach Brian Miller.

Connor Miller, Jason Hubbard, Travis Cote and Chase Kwasna had big nights offensively and Travis Cote was strong on the pitcher’s mound for 5 innings. Tyler Chattaway came in for 1 inning of relief. Two outstanding defensive plays were made in the field. Redding Palmeri made a diving catch in centerfield, and his brother Crosby Palmeri charged in on a single to right field to throw the runner out at first base in the final inning.

“Every player contributed either offensively or defensively,” Miller said. “It was a total team effort,” he said.

“We tell them all the time ‘play your best baseball and let’s see if the other team can keep up.’ They did exactly that in the finals,” Miller said. “They gave maximum effort and were laser focused on playing their best baseball.”

All 13 Waves players play on Riverhead Little League teams, he said.

The team’s players are: Devin Caserta, Tyler Chattaway, Travis Cote, Trey Edwards, Jason Hubbard, Connor Miller, Chase Kwasna, Eddie Meier, Ben Micieli-Martinez, Crosby Palmeri, Redding Palmeri, Ryan Quick and Michael Zambriski.

Waves travel team coaches: Brian Miller, Ed Meier, Mike Quick and Jason Kwasna.
