DE SOTO, Kan. – It’s been another year of ups and downs for some, but it’s off to a strong start for Annabel Sanchez, owner of Annabel’s Maker Market in DeSoto.
“This year was really good for me at the beginning,” Sanchez said. “And then all of a sudden, like October, November, I felt something a little different hit.”
As Sanchez tries to push forward, she also feels responsible for taking care of other businesses nearby.
“It’s not just my responsibility, but I have 40 other small businesses here that I feel like I have to help them,” she said.
Despite the slow end of the year, growth is on the horizon in De Soto.
Tuesday night’s city vote Tuesday night led to the approval of preliminary plans that will move the proposed plan forward The future of the Panasonic battery factory.
US Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves said the project will boost the local and national economy.
“I think what you’re going to see in Kansas City and throughout the Midwest is continued strong and steady growth,” Graves said. “As I said, manufacturing growth, which drives a lot of things in the Midwest, has been very strong,” he said.
