Does venture capital need a shot in the arm?

Hello and welcome back to Equity, the startup business podcast, where we unpack the numbers and nuances behind the headlines.

this week Alex He’s back with Grace and new producer Teresa Loconsolo to kick off the week. Earlier this Monday morning, we recorded Gary Tan’s announcement that he would be returning to Y Combinator as president. Dang

But we still had good news!

  • Stocks are not having a good day around the world after last Friday’s very tough one. Not so naive to the IPO market.
  • Things weren’t much better in crypto-land, where Bitcoin and Ether were off their value a week ago, and NFT volumes were muted.
  • And speaking of quiet, startup news – Y Combinator splits! – It was moderate at the weekend. The August slowdown seems to be true here as well. Frankly, beginners could use a shot in the arm to approach Courage to 2021 levels of insanity. Could the Instacart IPO we’ve been waiting for be the necessary boost?
  • Another thing we’ll be keeping an eye on is whether Good Vibes gets promoted and when the Tether audit finally happens.
  • Also in the news: Honda is spending big on building batteries in the United States; India’s mobile connectivity is set to improve next year; And Metta and Indian conglomerate Reliance are teaming up for e-commerce.
