Filmmaker Karan Johar returned with season 7 of Koffee With Karan but this time on the digital platform Disney+ Hotstar. The new season saw several new pairs on the couch as the show came to an end with 12 episodes and a special award season episode. The show is set to return next year. Ranbir Kapoor did not appear on the show this season. Even Shah Rukh Khan was missing from the popular talk show, and fans missed the actor’s presence. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama recently, the filmmaker talked about enjoying the season and said he hopes to bring SRK next season.

In the interview, Karan Johar said, “It was 12 episodes so we were restricted by calling not more than 26 people. Ranbir Kapoor, of course, teases me and says that he won’t come on Koffee With Karan ever. I’ll try and convince him for the next season. I’m hoping that we can do something solid with Shah Rukh Khan in the next season because he’s been such a huge part of the show. Every time he’s appeared, he’s been magical. So I’m hoping that but there are so many more people that I still would love to get on the show.”
Talking about the show being on the digital platform, he said, “I think while I might be talking about freely, people are using language a little more freely. But I also feel everyone’s a lot more prepared with their answers because they know who not to offend, and how to play it. So I think people are a lot more careful in the rapid fire. So I’m hoping that we can kind of cross that bridge with the next season.”
He continued, “I think everyone’s coming a lot more guarded than they ever were. And that sometimes is like not the syntax of KWK.”
“Everyone’s so touchy and sensitive. Nobody takes everything in humour. I mean, everybody takes everything very seriously. They don’t want to upset anybody and I’m like, there’s a fine line between being funny and being offensive and I hope that we can be on that line. I hope we can crack it.”
On the professional front, Karan Johar’s next directorial is Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The film stars Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi. The film is slated for a 2023 release. The filmmaker is also planning to direct an action entertainer with hopes to kick off the shoot in April 2023.
