“Moving on, Actor Ranbir Kapoor believes that “”art transcends geographical boundaries””. The actor, who had previously worked with Pakistani actor Fawad Khan in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, said he was open to the idea of collaborating with talents from the neighbouring country to shoot a film in Saudi Arabia. He went on to congratulate the Pakistani film industry for the blockbuster success of The Legend of Maula Jatt, headlined by Fawad Khan. Ranbir was in conversation at the Red Sea Film Festival, where he received the Variety International Vanguard Actor Award. Varun Dhawan, who was recently seen in Bhediya, is keen to do regional films as he had been told that he is “more like a South Indian hero than a North Indian hero” by fans. When he was recently asked in an interview, about his plans of doing a film in the south, Varun mentioned that he wanted to work with many filmmakers in the south. Varun said that when they released Bhediya in Telugu as “Thodelu” at a launch in Hyderabad, fans said they loved his energy level and the kind of films he did, so he saw no distinction in the industries. The actor will next be seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s Bawaal.
“Meanwhile, the debate around older Bollywood male stars romancing younger female actors has been going on for a long time. Recently, Kajol, who essayed on the role of a mother of a 24-year-old man in Salaam Venky, was asked about it.
In an interview, Kajol said that movies are also ultimately “”a business”” which needed to earn profits at the end of the day and that “”every hero had to pull in a lot to make a film a hit, which was a huge responsibility on their heads””. However, she said that this was only her opinion and not a fact. Kajol will be next seen in The Good Wife, an Indian adaptation of the American courtroom drama of the same name.”
Actor Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh are all set to star in filmmaker Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming movie Chamkila. The film is based on two popular Punjabi singers Amarjot Kaur and Amar Singh Chamkila. Recently, Dosanjh confirmed being a part of Chamkila during an interview with Film Companion. He shared that Imtiaz was very particular about him excelling as Chamkila on the silver screen. Hence, the director sends him an email every day describing minute details about his on-screen character. For the unversed, Amar Singh Chamkila and his wife Amarjot Kaur were assassinated on March 8, 1988, along with members of their musical band.
Producer Jay Shewakramani is basking in the success of his recent offering Freddy which starred Kartik Aaryan. With the thriller film receiving a positive reception on its digital release, Jay is now looking forward to his next film “Devotion of Suspect X”, which marks the digital debut of actor Kareena Kapoor Khan. The film directed by Sujoy Ghosh is the adaption of the novel of the same name by Japanese writer Higashino Keigo. The film, which is in its post-production stage, will have Kareena in a new avatar. Rani Mukerji is also coming up with her memoir, scheduled to release on her birthday, March 21, 2023.
Lastly, filmmaker Karan Johar is perhaps among the most astute observers of the film industry. In an appearance on a roundtable interaction organised by Galatta Plus, Karan dissected the issues with Bollywood in particular. Karan said that while ‘normalcy’ has returned to cinema-going across Indian film industries, the Hindi industry was experiencing problems. He pointed out that ‘the biggest hits’ in the Hindi-speaking belt this year ‘were dubbed films’ of the South — KGF: Chapter 2, RRR and Baahubali 2. He also said that Hindi filmmakers used to be trendsetters once upon a time, but for some reason, they began making remake after remake of South Indian hits and “lacked conviction and spine”, as an industry.
