Let’s begin with our top story. Pathaan director Siddharth Anand is ecstatic about the film’s ‘outstanding’ performance at the box office. The film has created euphoria, primarily due to lead star Shah Rukh Khan. Talking about the unprecedented success of Pathaan, the filmmaker, in a recent interview said – “There was a lot of curiosity to see Shah Rukh Khan back after his hiatus – he took a break from media, from appearances, he just became inaccessible to the world, suddenly there was a thirst for him. That coupled with the fact that the teaser landed so well and the songs became such huge hits. That’s what created this mass hysteria.”
Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan were all praises for Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, calling it one of the biggest blockbusters of Indian cinema. The actors were at the launch of the Zee Cine Awards, where they will also perform. The last two years have been difficult for Bollywood with boycott calls affecting box office numbers. However, both Alia and Varun had a fabulous 2022 with the former giving hits like Gangubai Kathiawadi, Darlings and Brahmastra while Varun had Bhediya and JugJugg Jeeyo. Alia was reminded that Pathaan had beaten even Brahmastra’s box office records, and to that, she smiled and responded – “I think every movie should break every film’s records. I am very happy.”
The first trailer of Anupam Kher and Neena Gupta’s movie Shiv Shastri Balboa has dropped, and it promises to be a feel-good family entertainer. In the promo, Anupam’s Shiv Shastri is inspired by the iconic Sylvester Stallone character Rocky Balboa, who, even after several defeats, refuses to take life’s beating lying down. Kher is seen flaunting the Rocky-inspired red gloves to his grandson, but the child has no clue what he is talking about. Sharib Hashmi, Nargis Fakhri and Jugal Hansraj also make appearances in the trailer. We are also introduced to Neena Gupta’s character, a person Kher encounters in the US, and later forms a friendship with. The film releases on February 10.
Moving on. Netflix announced a four-part docu-series celebrating the movies of filmmaker Yash Chopra and his production house Yash Raj Films. The docu-series will feature 35 leading voices of the Hindi film industry, including mega-stars who have closely worked with YRF throughout its existence, and dive into the history of Bollywood through the lens of YRF’s impact in making Bollywood and its leading stars a household name globally. The trailer of The Romantics will be out today with the documentary set to premiere on Netflix on February 14 as a tribute to the late Yash Chopra, the filmmaker behind iconic Bollywood films like Silsila, Kabhi Kabhie, Veer-Zaara, Dil To Pagal Hai, Chandni and Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
Actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh has come on board for producers Rhea Kapoor and Ektaa Kapoor’s recently announced film “The Crew”. While Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu and Kriti Sanon have already been on board, Dosanjh is the latest star to join the film. Although details of Diljit’s role are still under wraps, “The Crew” is said to be based in the aviation industry. The story follows three women who work and hustle to move on with life. But as they try to make their way forward, they are led into some unexpected situations, leading them to get caught in a web of lies. The film, which is directed by Rajesh Krishnan, is set to go on floors at the end of March.
Meanwhile, star-couple Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan have time and again spoken about sharing parenting responsibilities. Now, in a new interview, Kareena referenced her love for yoga as she talked about balancing her personal and professional life. The actor was in conversation with Variety about her new projects — Sujoy Ghosh’s The Devotion of Suspect X and Hansal Mehta’s murder mystery The Buckingham Murders. While talking about creating a work-life balance, the actor said, “It’s literally like standing on one leg. I’m also very lucky to have a husband who works in the same profession. We take turns as to when we have to travel.”
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta says the trend of determining a film’s success by its box office score is quite upsetting. Known for making hard-hitting dramas like Shahid, Omerta and Aligarh, the director said he feels baffled by the ”obsession” with the commercial performance of a film as he believes not every movie can turn out to be a blockbuster on the day of its release. Mehta was speaking to reporters at the press conference about his upcoming film Faraaz. The action thriller film is based on the 2016 terrorist attack in a cafe in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is set to release in theatres on February 3. The 54-year-old director revealed Faraaz will be released across 100 screens in 15 locations.
