Longtime YouTube executive Robert Kinkley has announced he is leaving the major social video platform in the US after more than 12 years at the company.
Mary Ellen Ko, Google’s president of global customer solutions, will take over the role of chief business officer at YouTube starting in early October, the company has confirmed. Kyncl will remain on YouTube temporarily to help with the transition.
YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki thanked Kinkle Monday on Twitter.
“We owe much of our growth and influence,” Wojcicki wrote. “I am delighted to welcome Mary Ellen Coe as YT’s new CBO. Mary Ellen is committed to making partners more successful at Google and I know she will do the same for creators, partners and users. @YouTube!”

Kyncl in the year In the third quarter of 2010, he joined the Google Video platform after eight years as vice president of content at Netflix.
Variety reported that Wojcicki sent an internal memo to YouTube employees on Monday, noting that under his leadership, “YouTube has forged new relationships and partnerships in music, traditional media and technology,” paying more than $30 billion to creators, artists and media companies. Kyncl’s experience at Netflix and YouTube has made it a go-to source for veteran media executives, including former Disney CEO Bob Iger, who have moved their businesses to focus on direct-to-consumer streaming services.
Incoming CBO Mary Ellen Ko has served as president of global customer solutions since early 2017 and has been with Google since 2012. Prior to working with the search giant, she was a partner at McKinsey.
She also served on the boards of multinational healthcare company Merck and grocery store Whole Foods Markets before it was acquired by Amazon.
Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
