Gonzalez Wins Scholarship for Pharmacy Tech – News News

Maribel Gonzalez of Snow Hill has been awarded scholarships from Walgreens and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK).
The $250 scholarship is designed to cover the pharmacy technician certification exam fee.
The Walgreens Pharmacy Technician Certification Scholarship recognizes Allied Health or Pharmacy Technician students who wish to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam.
Gonzalez is one of 18 students selected to receive this award.
She graduated from Wayne Community College’s pharmacy technology program in May and is qualified to take the pharmacy technician certification exam administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
“I am very grateful and honored to be selected for this scholarship,” Gonzalez said. She said the award eased her financial burden and motivated her to get certified.
Gonzalez previously completed WCC’s nursing assistant course and earned a specialty certificate. She hopes to return to WCC to continue her education and earn a nursing degree.
She is employed by Wayne UNC Health Care in Goldsboro.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to partner with Walgreens,” said Dr. Monica Marlow, executive director of the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation.
“Certificate exam costs often pose a financial barrier to students’ ability to enter the workforce. We are grateful to Walgreens for addressing these challenges and providing a pathway to greater career opportunities,” said Marlow.
The scholarship application is open throughout the year and winners are selected twice a year in spring and autumn. Up to 50 awards are given each year.
