Through a partnership between the Albuquerque Department of Economic Development and Google, five hundred Albuquerque residents will have the opportunity to learn the skills needed for careers in the technology sector.
The partnership between the city and Google includes scholarship support for hundreds of Burkinabes to train through the Google Vocational Certificate Program, which includes data analysis, digital marketing and e-commerce, IT support, project management and UX design. City news release.
“We’re breaking down barriers for our city’s hungry new careers and investing in Albuquerque workers,” Mayor Tim Keller said in a statement.
The online program — which does not require a degree or experience to apply — can be completed in three to six months, according to the release. Graduates of the program are connected to an employer consortium of more than 150 businesses, including Walmart, Ford and Verizon.
Each certification in the program is taught by staff from Google. Certificates include assessments, quizzes and written assignments to “prove strength and ingenuity,” according to the news release.
In the year The program, which began in 2018, has graduated more than 70,000 people across the country — most of them from minority populations.
