Hed Mayner’s Fall/Winter 2023 runway collection gets down to the basics, this time focusing on traditional dominant silhouettes brought about by classic tailoring.
Unlike previous collections where large sizes were the focal point and centerpiece, this season saw mechanics and balanced proportions come into play. Suit jackets now had the opposite effect of looking oversized, where the jacket seemed to be treated more like a second skin than an overcoat. The pieces still retained their box-cut nature, where the curves weren’t defined, giving her a quintessentially wintery look. Wide trousers were also combined with slim jackets and oversized shoes, giving a dynamic sense of movement to the outfit.
The collection considers the idea of a young boy taking on the clothes of his grandfather and father. The sense of borrowing provokes a new ideal of collection. From voluminous overcoats to high-waisted trousers and double-breasted formal coats to a cropped jacket, sizes have been slimmed down to suit a youthful aesthetic.
Also unveiled this season was her collaboration with Reebok, which included the brand’s signature Classic Leather sneaker washed and bent in shape to showcase a flatter toe line. Two tracksuits were created to mimic wrinkled textures and fuse an SS23 T-shirt shape with Reebok’s signature motifs.
