Hilliker wins first major with travel league | News, Sports, Jobs



BRADFORD, Pa. — The Wednesday Travel League held its fourth major of the season, the “Frank Borowski Invitational,” named for its league founder, at the Pennhills Club.

Josh Hilliker earned his first major victory with the low round of 74. Coming off of last week’s victory at Elk Valley, Hilliker shot even-par 35 on the back nine for the second straight week. Hilliker also broke the league course record of held by Ed Tofil.

Mike Wolfe finished second with 80, while Robert Calph, Tim Siragusa and Dave Wallace all tied for third with 83. Wolfe led the front nine with 38 and Hilliker led the back nine with 35. In the B Flight, Jeff Nelson won on a tiebreaker with Tom Destro. In the C Flight, Gary Haase won on a tiebreaker with Lenny Leszkowicz. The D Flight champion was Phil Hopkins. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Jim Smith.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight, Hilliker (Nos. 2, 17, 18) and Siragusa (No. 10); B Flight, Ron Szach (No. 3), Nelson (No. 4), Destro (Nos. 5, 12), Joe Bifaro (No. 14) and Tim Walawender (No. 15); C Flight, Pete Pinkoski (Nos. 2, 4), Seb McAfee (Nos. 5, 9, 11), Bob Kujawa (Nos. 12, 16), Leszkowicz (No 13), Tom Sacilowski (No. 14) and Haase (No. 17); D Flight, Brian Lore (No.1), Mike Willoughby (Nos. 2, 11, 13) and Hopkins (No. 4).

Closest to the pin were Tofil (Nos. 2, 6), McAfee (No. 11) and Dave Criscione (No. 17). Winners of the steeplechase were Hilliker (A Flight), Destro (B), Dan Kaszuba (C) and Hopkins(D). Winners of the par-3 contest were: A) Hilliker (Even), B) Pat Weaver (+2), C) Haase (+2) and D) Mick Dunning Sr. (+3).

Top point winners were Hilliker (68), McAfee (44), Pinkoski (40) and Tofil (32). Season points leaders are 1. Tofil (291), 2. Hilliker (281), 3. Calph (254), 4. Wolfe (250), 5. Dave Franklin (245), 6.Wayne Stoughton (231), 7. Bifaro (202), 8. Bob Thompson (190), 9. Tony Destro (170) and 10. Pinkoski (167).
