Hot Topic and Studio Ghibli are opening a fashion store in Tokyo’s Harajuku【Photo】

awesome Princess Mononoke denim jacket and Spirited Away Yokosuka jacket join very long stretch IN Harajuku Collective Pop-up Shop.

There is quite a bit of crossover between Hot topic shoppers and anime fans, as evidenced by how many items the fashion retailer sells featuring Japanese animation characters and motifs. At the very least, there is quite a bit of crossover between Hot Topic shoppers and anime fans in the US because here in Japan, Hot Topic doesn’t have any stores.

That’s about to change, so to speak, however, with the opening of a store next month in Tokyo that’s part of a creative partnership between Hot Topic and none other than Studio Ghibli.

of The Harajuku Collective collaboration is the pairing of Studio Ghibli anime with a host of designers to create a range of clothing and accessories. The Harajuku Collective pop-up store will be located, of course, in Tokyo’s trendy Harajuku district.

The store will carry a partial selection of the line’s American-designed items, such as those pictured directly above. In addition, however, it will also offer Japan-exclusive items from a group of nine Japanese designers, artists and fashion brands, like this Princess Mononoke denim jacket by artist Nancysnake…

…this Spirited Away No Face Yokosuka jacket by illustrator BEY…

…and this rather romantic long sleeve top designed by actor/model Yutaro.

In total there will be a pop-up shop over 50 items, including shirts, jackets, dresses, leggings and bags. The full list of collaborators for the original Japanese items consists of Nancysnake, BEY, Yutaro, Kawaii Monster Cafe, vocal group Atarashii Gakko no Leaders, and illustrators ABEchan, asuka, Shoko Nagamine, and mecco.

In addition to works of decorative art, The interior of the store will feature a large Totoro standwhich the Harajuku Collective says was created from very specific thinking “If there were colorful, kawaii mushrooms in Totoro’s forest and it started raining acorns, there would probably be days when he used one of those mushrooms as an umbrella, right?”

▼ We have to admit, that makes it seems like something Totoro would do.

▼ And yes, that Totoro design, from Kawaii Monster Cafealso available in t-shirt.

The Harajuku Collective pop-up store will be open from August 10th to August 28th, and items will also be available through its yet-to-be-launched online store here. However, chances are the items will sell out quickly, so you might want to remind yourself of the date with the free-to-use device Howl’s Moving Castle Studio Ghibli bulletin board illustration gifted to fans.
