Is investor bullishness on embedded insurance warranted? • TechCrunch


Included Insurance – Selling coverage at the same time as another product or service is increasing. According to data platform Dealroom, it accounts for a growing share of all policies sold, and startups in this space have raised nearly $800 million in 2021 alone.

After recently polling investors on all things insurance, we’re curious to see if the market remains as bullish on insurance as it was last year, and if it’s warranted.

“I’m personally bullish on embedded insurance,” Beer Lane Ventures general partner Marta Notaras told TechCrunch.

While we see clear value in the ability to combine insurance with other purchases, Notaras and other investors we spoke with also had reservations.

“We believe in the concept of embedded insurance, but a more measured approach would suit investors better when analyzing these businesses,” said Adam Blumenkranz of Distributed Ventures.
