JW Anderson SS23 at London Fashion Week

JW Anderson’s Spring/Summer 2023 show at London Fashion Week took place in a London casino arcade, taking inspiration from the “parallel world of people trapped in their computers,” according to post-show notes.

Presented through a bi-gendered cast, the womenswear showcase fused fashion with fun in its purest form, including dresses complete with pet fish plastic bags, glittering beads and retro keyboard keys. Offering an overall sense of confrontation throughout, Anderson’s SS23 was equal parts oversized and fit, dramatic and subtle, uncluttered and understated.

Perhaps most impressive in the showcase was Anderson’s genuine dedication to his craft. Featuring a wide range of effortless techniques, from rolling and pressing to knitting and reversing. A masterclass in designing extravagant proportions, the designer’s SS23 showcase was complete with all of Anderson’s signature silhouettes, and then some.

The show ended with a tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, which came in the form of a black dress with the words “Thank You” alongside the year of her birth and death.
