Virginia Tech running back. Keshawn King In the year During his true debut at Blacksburg in the 2019 season, he showed big-play potential as he rushed for 340-yards and two touchdowns as a backup.
Since the 2019 season, King seems to have faded into the background behind the boys Khalil Herbert. And Rahim Blackshear.
Over the summer and throughout fall camp, King has put in a lot of work off the football field as he tackles the offense in a variety of ways and his explosiveness is on display this fall at Lane Stadium.
“I feel like I’ve grown more through the plays,” King said on a highlight call with members of the media on Friday. “Understanding the plays and really building chemistry with my teammates. Obviously, we’ve got a new ballgame here, and it’s about diving in with my team and understanding a lot of what’s going on and really focusing on what I can do best as a player. I’ve been running a lot to build my stamina, so I can focus on being a player.
“My explosiveness comes from working hard every day,” King added.
Over the past three seasons, King has shown his skills as a running back, return specialist, and tackle.
This fall, he may be called upon to carry a heavy load.
“Whatever my role is, I’m going to be happy with it,” King said. “What can I do to help this team?
“I have a great feeling. I can help this team in any way I can, whether it’s a rebound, a rebound, anything like that.
King also feels good about his new quarterback. Grant WellsAfter working with him in spring and fall camp.
“He’s amazing. He’s a hard worker, very smart. He understands everything, knows everybody’s job. I can count on him for anything when I ask, and I’m sure the team feels the same way about him. He’s very, very, very smart. That’s one It’s something. He’s a very talented player.
“He’s a born leader. I can really tell he takes a professional approach to everything he does. He’s a great quarterback.”
King tapped the true freshman running back. Brice DukeHe made a lot of noise in his first fall camp with the Hokies.
“Bryce came in knowing everything, knowing what was expected of him. He is fighting everything on and off the field. He is a very hard worker, and he is determined to fix anything he seems to be doing wrong. As long as he’s in the books and things like that, he takes his time, and he’s really understood. He is a very talented player, very excited about it.
