Las Vegas police say man killed business partner and hid body in trunk for weeks

LAS VEGAS NAVY (FOX5) – A man is accused of killing his business partner and hiding his body in the trunk of his car for weeks. Vegas Metropolitan Police.

Tony Danh, 37, is accused of killing Amir Hagi in early June, according to LVMPD. Danh was arrested on September 29 in San Diego County.

Hagi was reported missing from Phoenix on June 9 and was last seen on June 5. Hagi’s body was found in the trunk of a BMW at the Budget Suites, 3655 W. Tropicana Ave., Las Vegas, on Aug. 19. A person called 911 to report a foul odor coming from the car.

The car is a white BMW with Arizona license plates that was pulled over by an unknown tow truck around 10:30 a.m. The BMW was listed in Hagi’s missing person’s report but was registered to Danh at a Cerritos, California address.

The windows were not tinted and officers saw garbage bags, medical gloves and a bottle of ammonia in the vehicle. Inside the suitcase, inspectors found a “badly decomposed human body” partially wrapped in garbage bags, court documents state. Investigators said the body was too decomposed to immediately determine sex, race, identity or any injuries and was tentatively named “Tropicana Road Doe.”

Investigators said Hagi co-owned the Elite360 business with Danh. Danh was known to have a gambling problem and asked Hagin for money shortly before he disappeared, police said. The employees of Hagi and Danh said they did not receive their salaries in the first week of June and have not been able to contact the couple since then.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office determined that the “Tropicana Road Doe” bore many physical similarities to Hagee. Hagee was positively identified as the victim on Aug. 25. The coroner’s office said Hagee died of two gunshot wounds to the head and ruled the death a homicide.

NV Cars, a towing company, asked them to tow Danh’s vehicle on Aug. 19, according to court documents. Danh said he was staying at an Airbnb and moving to Budget Suites, but the owner lost his car keys. The employee said he noticed a foul smell coming from the car, but Danh said it was from the garbage bags in the garage. Danh asked to be dropped off at an Orleans casino and the tow truck driver complied, the report said. Surveillance showed Dan being picked up by a Lyft driver and later dropped off at a rental car business.

According to car tracking records and surveillance, Danh returned to the Budget Suites where the BMW was dumped around 2pm on August 19, records said. LVMPD officers began their investigation of the BMW around 2:10 p.m. that same day. The vehicle was then tracked to Mexico that same night. Records show that Danh rented a Nissan SUV from the same company from June 7-9.

Danh is also reported to have started renting a warehouse on June 7. Records show that Danh entered the room on June 8 from 11:17 am to 3:18 pm. Leaving the storage room.

LVMPD inspected the room on Aug. 29 and found a pool of partially dried liquid on the floor consistent with trunk rot. The fluid also tested positive for the presence of blood, according to reports.

Police signed a warrant for Danh’s arrest on August 30, but he was taken to a California jail on September 29.
