Mansfield Timberwolves committed four-star safety Jordan Sanford to Texas Tech

Texas Tech has landed one of the top defensive backs in the Dallas area. And one of the fastest.

Mansfield Timberview four-star safety Jordan Sanford announced his commitment to Tech on Twitter. He chose the Red Raiders over 18 offers, a list that included Northwestern, Oklahoma State, SMU and Washington.

Sanford (5-11, 185) ran a best time in the 100 meters this past season at 10.55 seconds and finished seventh at the Class 5A state meet with a wind-aided time of 10.57. He also placed sixth on Timberview’s 4×100 relay team with a time of 41.11, and his season best time of 21.74 was a PR in the 200.

Sanford is ranked as the 23rd best safety in the 2023 class by 247SportsCollege’s rankings. He is the No. 7 safety and the No. 27 overall recruit in the Dallas area.

Texas Tech’s recruiting class was ranked 17th in the nation after Sanford’s commitment. He is the third player in Tech’s 24-player class behind post defender Isaiah Crawford and Mansfield senior safety Brandon Jordan. The unit includes four defensive backs.

Timberview entered the season ranked 9th in the state in 5A Division I Dave Campbell of Texas Football. Sanford had 34 tackles, seven pass breakups and two interceptions as Timberview finished 8-5 and reached the third round of the 5A Division II playoffs.

Texas Tech’s Joey McGuire, UTSA’s Jeff Traylor have the recruiting edge with TXHSFB roots.
