Mark Cuban — of “Shark Tank” and Dallas Mavericks ownership fame — really doesn’t care about Silicon Valley’s tech bros (or San Francisco itself).
In an hour-long appearance on Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast that aired Sunday, the billionaire blasted Bay Area label industry workers for being rude and arrogant, and San Francisco itself for letting tech out.
“F—k like pretending, right?” The Cuban told Maher. “Being in the tech industry, if you live in Silicon Valley, everyone is the smartest mom in the world.”
“Attitude. I mean, it’s like, ‘We’re tech bros, we’re tech bros, we’re really smart,'” he added. “‘We went to Harvard, we went to MIT, we’re tech. You can’t just hang up, you don’t know what the f—k is going on.’ I do everything I can to make my investments work outside of Silicon Valley.
“Just because you’re good at technology doesn’t mean you’re the smartest person in the world. You’re good at that one thing.” Mahre said.
“But they’re not that good,” Cuban replied. “It’s to pretend they’re good, isn’t it? … There’s a lot of capital out there, so people follow the money. I understand perfectly. But the pretense and the attitude and the expectations and the arrogance, it’s like a business and you can be good anywhere in the world.
But he takes San Francisco to task, saying he believes the city as a whole is a stranger to the tech industry.
Maher, to his credit, defended the city despite his basic jibes about the city’s cleanliness and “political correctness”: “I don’t want to add S-T to the streets and take dirt on San Francisco.” [laughing] I love San Francisco; I think we all love San Francisco, don’t we? “
“I’ve never been a big fan of San Francisco,” Cuban said, later adding, “I’d rather do business in Dallas, all day, every day.” (Maybe he still wanted the Warriors to win the Mavericks’ last playoff game.)
