Kim announced the appointment of Dasheda Dawson as the founding director of the new Cannabis NYC initiative to lead the agency’s support for the growing cannabis industry. . She will work to establish and collaborate with the New York City Cannabis Advisory Council to establish an industry advisory board and community stakeholders aimed at ensuring innovation and equity are central to the success of this emerging industry.

About Dasheda Dawson – Founding Director of Cannabis NYC

Dasheda Dawson is a global cannabis advocate, award-winning Fortune 100 business strategist and best-selling author on the cannabis industry. Her advocacy and thought leadership has also been featured in various media outlets.

Dawson has nearly 20 years of experience in business development, strategic management and product marketing, leading transformational organizations in the public and private sectors, and has focused on the growing cannabis industry for nearly a decade.

As an attorney and policy advisor, Dawson was instrumental in the passage of the 2021 New York Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act. While fighting for legalization in her home state, Dawson was tapped to lead cannabis control in Portland, Oregon. Dawson serves as the board chair of the Coalition of Cannabis Regulators, a national organization of industry policymakers and regulators called the leading architects of cannabis equity and reform in the United States.

Dawson received her MBA from Rutgers Business School and completed her undergraduate degree in molecular biology at Princeton University.
