What makes London a good place to get an MBA degree? London is such a vibrant business center where the opportunities for work, study and entertainment are endless. As someone looking to make a career transition, having so many different industries in my home is very helpful. I also love how green the city is. Take a ten minute walk away from the hustle and bustle of city life and find yourself in the calm of one of the city’s many beautiful parks.
London Business School is one of the most culturally and professionally diverse MBA programs in the world. How do you see these global perspectives increasing the value of your business education in the next two years? London is already a global city, and LBS clearly embraces the city’s ethos of welcoming diverse people from all walks of life to create a better society. LBS would not be the school it is today without this distinction, and it is something I believe should be at the forefront of my education and career.
Except for your classmates and environment, What was a key element of the London Business School MBA program that made you choose this business school and why was it so important to you? no I was drawn to the dynamic nature of the course. Having the option to leave at the 15-, 18- or 21-month mark means you can tailor an MBA to suit your personal journey. This means you can take part in part-time internships, international internships and placement courses without worrying about how it will affect your time at LBS.
What course, club or activity are you most excited about at London Business School? “International experiences” gives us the opportunity to immerse ourselves in different business cultures. This is unique to LBS and something I am looking forward to. I am also excited about the language courses that LBS offers. As someone who has been learning Spanish for the past two years, I am interested in further developing my language skills to suit a business setting.
Describe your biggest achievement in your career so far: My biggest achievement was a 7-week tour during the pandemic when I produced a new award-winning musical. It was a difficult and dangerous time to create live theater and involve a lot of risk management (and expert knowledge of COVID protocols in a short amount of time!). I oversaw everything, including hiring creators, negotiating with venues and raising over £160,000 in capital. As a result, the show was nominated for a 2022 Vision Honor Award in the Best Play/Music category for its social impact on culture, media and entertainment.
What’s one thing you’ve read, watched or listened to recently that you highly recommend to future MBAs? why? I recommend taking the time to use non-MBA related media to avoid burnout! Applying to business school can be overwhelming, so I think it’s important to make sure you take the time to relieve yourself of that stress. My journey is to run again. The office (Although I don’t recommend taking any business advice from Michael Scott!)
What motivated you to pursue an MBA at this point and what do you hope to do after graduation? Having worked in theater for the past few years, I am looking forward to developing new skills and taking a step forward to explore how I want my professional life to develop. My ambition is to continue working in the entertainment industry, but with a focus on streaming services with major content creation companies. As my father is also an alumnus (class of ’98) and was able to transition from chemical engineering to investment banking, I have seen firsthand how valuable an MBA at LBS can be for individuals making a career change.
What advice would you give applicants to help them get into London Business School’s MBA program? My advice is to be yourself in your application and not worry about meeting the “perfect” potential MBA candidate. As a theater producer, I dreaded applying to business schools because I wasn’t sure if my unusual background would translate into my application. Instead, I found that LBS not only welcomes those from diverse backgrounds, but actively encourages them to apply.
