Men’s cross country will compete at Virginia Tech.


BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee University men’s cross country team continues its 2022 start at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Friday evening.

Chris Ruiz (Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Township) led the Generals at the invitational in the 6K in 19:59.4 and his classmate. Jake Simmonds (Emerald Hills, Calif./Crystal Springs Uplands) finished on his heels, crossing the finish line less than a second behind Rice.

The Generals scored 97 points to beat Virginia Tech by 20 points as a team. Isaac Prater of Concord was the first individual to cross the finish line with a time of 18:18.2.

Josh Fingerhut (Havertown, Pa/Haverford Township), Henry Haden (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) and Row Stern (Lynchburg, Va./Virginia Episcopal) finished with five points for the Generals.

The boys will continue training for the next two weeks before competing again on Sept. 16 at the South Regional Preview hosted by Christopher Newport University, the site of the NCAA DIII South Regional Championships in November.
