Neb seeks a place in the tech economy Local news

Technology and agricultureTechnology permeates every aspect of our lives with improvements and advances that increase productivity, facilitate diagnostic measures, maintain efficient operations, and create opportunities for additional income.

In Nebraska, we know how the agriculture industry has benefited from technology through GPS, crop sensors, aerial imagery, drone operations and robotics. We need to develop technology here. With its central location, quality of life and low cost of living, Nebraska is an ideal environment for technology development.

As the founding chair of the Nebraska Tech Collaborative, I will work to build a world-class technology ecosystem that attracts technology companies, attracts investment and creates technology jobs in Nebraska. NTC has a goal to increase technology jobs in Nebraska by 10,000 and 300,000 new technology companies by 2025. To do this, we need a sufficient, reliable and reliable supply of semiconductor chips. They highlight the technology that drives our economy.

By 2021, approximately 80% of our semiconductor wafer manufacturing capacity in the US will be US-headquartered. Now we are very dependent on foreign manufacturers. Much of the world’s manufacturing capacity is now located in Asia, which has recently caused significant supply chain congestion and raised concerns about China’s threat to Taiwan as a major supplier.

Nevertheless, semiconductor exports are expected to total $62 billion in 2021, ranking fifth among US exports. Semiconductors are an American invention that founded American industry. Here we want to grow semiconductor chip manufacturing. Our country should invest and encourage the industry.

Congress has legislation stuck in conference to help build more manufacturing capacity. The legislation should include $52 billion in CHIPS Act grant resources and an investment tax credit to encourage the construction of new semiconductor facilities.

The U.S. semiconductor industry accounts for a quarter of a million direct U.S. jobs and more than a million more indirect U.S. jobs. Every semiconductor manufactured in the United States supports nearly six more jobs in our economy than the 10,000 technology jobs we create in Nebraska with the help of these critical actions in Congress. This is an opportunity for America and Nebraska.

The GOP’s false claimNo one can describe saying something while quietly supporting the opposite like the Republican Party. Their pro-life platform includes the death penalty, unrestricted gun ownership, and uncontrolled environmental destruction. The latter world kills more than any other, and guns are the leading cause of death for children in the United States.

The irony of pro-lifers who support the death penalty is a verbal jaw-dropper that lets you know that PT Barnum was right. Every minute a newborn is breastfed.

And the party of small government has outdone itself in its attempt to control America’s womb. No one knows when life begins, but since the religious right first embraced the concept, the death of Roe v. Wade was hailed as a victory for the party faithful.

Even though more women die from pregnancy than from legal abortion – the GOP and the people who voted for it are killing us. Hundreds of thousands have died without the need for conservatives to politicize vaccines alone.

Well-meaning Republican supporters are still responsible for unnecessary deaths. Passive ignorance of the truth is no defense. There was no way to tell if Jim Jones would lead followers to drink the Kool-Aid, but the effect of GOP policies is even more obvious.

A peek behind their curtain reveals what Republican politicians are: killers pretending to be pro-lifers. People who value life must give up their political ambitions before they kill more of us.
