She has worked in some large scale projects like ‘Baywatch’ and ‘Matrix 4’ and she is all set to appear in Amazon Prime Video’s sci-fi drama ‘Citadel’. In a recent interview with BBC, the actress opened up about the issue of pay parity in film industry.
Priyanka shared that she never saw pay parity until she started working in Hollywood. She stated, “I’ve never had pay parity in Bollywood. I would get paid about 10% of the salary of my male co-actor”, said Ms Chopra Jonas. The pay gap is large, substantially large. And so many women still deal with that. I’m sure I will too if I worked with a male co-actor now in Bollywood.”
Talking about how the fight against pay disparity in Bollywood is still going on, Priyanka said, “My generation of female actors have definitely asked [for equal pay. We’ve asked, but we’ve not got it.”
Further in the conversation, Priyanka shared how female actors have to put up with indiscipline of their male counterparts as well. She said, “I thought it was absolutely OK to sit for hours and hours on set, while my male co-actor just took his own time, and decided whenever he wanted to show up on set is when we would shoot.”
