MILAN, Sept 22 (Reuters) – Simplicity and contrasts were the main themes at Prada’s show in Milan on Thursday, with the Italian luxury label stripping away “unnecessary complications” in its latest womenswear collection.
Designers Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons opened the Spring/Summer 2023 show with sharp gray looks, including turtleneck shirts, slim trousers and a jumpsuit.
Reinforcing the idea of simplicity were sleeveless dresses made with a paper-based fabric. The dresses had slits in the front, creases and folds.

“Clothes are about simplicity, without unnecessary complications,” Miuccia Prada said in a statement.
“There is no complicated structure, nothing unnecessary. No nonsense – roughness, roughness represents absolute simplicity. We wanted to do something with the simplest, humblest material – paper. Then we used this system of reduction and simplicity as a tool. for created beauty.”
Outerwear consisted of light opera coats and black leather jackets. Some coats had large bows in the back.
Last season’s clean looks continued on Thursday’s show, with models wearing see-through blouses and skirts.
The designers, who worked with film director Nicolas Winding Refn for the show, stuck to a minimalistic color palette of grey, white, black with bursts of lime, orange and red appearing occasionally on tops, bags or shoes.
Milan Fashion Week runs until September 26 with heavyweights Gucci, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Giorgio Armani among those presenting their latest creations.
