Red Gold Inc. says high-tech automation is being incorporated into a newly expanded 250,000-square-foot warehouse at its distribution center in Alexandria, northern Madison County.
The company, which is headquartered in Ellwood, said the newly expanded warehouse will use high-tech racking to allow products to be stored and transported more quickly and efficiently.
Red Gold also says the technology will connect to its tomato processing plant in Oretes, reducing the number of truck trips between the plant and warehouse in Alexandria.
“By connecting our plant to D.C. and using this innovative system, we can eliminate 9,000 semi-truck trips[a year]between Orestes and the distribution center on State Route 28,” said Beau Reichatt, Red Gold’s chief operating officer.
“This project will also remotely control new automated rack conveyors (skid movers). These robots will move skids back and forth along the rack aisles, allowing more pallets to be stored accurately and safely,” Reichatt said.
The warehouse expansion will include a one-million-square-foot distribution center near State Route 28 in Alexandria.
First opened in 1942, Red Gold is known for producing ketchup, salsa and other tomato-based products.
Red Gold says the new automation won’t replace any of its workers. He added that the company is looking to fill several positions.
