Red Raider Recap: Four golfers made the cut in professional events


Lubbock, Texas – It was another busy weekend on the professional circuit for Texas Tech women’s golf as three alumni and an incoming Red Raider played in various professional events.

The weekend began with incoming freshman Lauren Zaretsky’s round of 68 in the inaugural LPGA’s CP Women’s Open hosted by the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club. Finally, Zaretsky finished +1 overall and ranked 75th. The Canadian was one of the two amateurs.

He is Tech’s second player to have a strong performance this weekend. Amy Taylor, the former Red Raider tied for 11th at the LET Access Series’ Gothenburg Open. With her performance this weekend, Taylor continues to rank in the top-20 of the LET Access Series’ Order of Merit.

Another pair of alumni had a strong weekend on the EPSON Tour, as Sofia Garcia and Gabby Lemieux won the Circling Raven Championship.

Garcia, one of three Red Raiders competing on the weekend, joining Lemieux and Kim Kaufman, shot a 68 to finish at -8 overall. Lemieux dropped 72, 71 and 70 to finish at -3 overall, while Kaufman missed the cut at +3 overall.

Kaufman enters the weekend ranked in the top-60/Group A on the Epson Tour Priority List, joining Lemieux (32nd) in Group A.

The Red Raiders open the 2022-23 season this Friday (Sept. 2) at the Carmel Cup hosted by the historic Pebble Beach Golf Club.
