Requesting applications for enterprise initiative grants for two working lands


Vermont Agricultural Food and Markets Agency Fiscal Year 2023 First Round of Workland Enterprise Applications Launching! The Workland Enterprise Board (WLEB) is releasing two requests for applications (RFAs) to allow Vermont’s workland service organizations and manufacturing associations to invest in projects focused on management, leadership, workforce development and executive business skills.

Please read the RFAs to learn about the application process and questions. To give organizations time to prepare, the application process will be open from August 12 to September 23.

Manufacturer’s association gifts
Award Amount: $10,000 – $20,000

Vermont-based nonprofit producer association groups that represent and promote Vermont’s agricultural, food, beverage, forestry or fiber products. Applications Click here to review the Producer Association Development Grant Request.

Service provider support
Award Amount: $10,000 – $20,000

Service provider grant projects include providing direct and indirect services to grow Vermont-based land-use businesses, such as marketing plans, business and financial planning, business transitions and successions. For applications, click here.

Power transmission for service providers

The Center for Women and Enterprise is accepting applications for their Strategic Development Plan Accelerator Program. This 10-week course and individual mentoring is open to women-owned food/beverage or service businesses with pre-Covid revenues of $50-400,000.

You must have been in business for at least two years and have at least one employee. The goal of this course is to give you both the opportunity and information to think strategically about your business and what you need to do to move successfully through Covid and into the future.

If your application is accepted, the course and the consultant are free.

Course: August – October 2022

Raising a healthy heifer workshop

The University of Vermont Extension and Dr. Diana Lositzer will be in person, focusing on the prevention and treatment of joint diseases.
It includes a farm tour to see how the owners raise their calves.

Attendees will hear about best practices for rearing replacements, colostrum management, milk feeding, housing, scars and calf hood pneumonia.

Vermont Pasture Consultant and co-presenter Sarah Flack discusses pasture management for heifers.

This free in-person workshop will be held at Taconic End Farm, 1395 Lester-Whiting Road, Lester, Vermont.

Reform Ag Infrastructure Webinar

Join the Croatan Institute to hear from a panel of experts on financing the unique needs of agricultural infrastructure businesses and implementing innovative capital solutions.

Reclamation farms rely on small- to medium-scale, integrated infrastructure to process, transport, and market their produce. These intermediate infrastructure businesses help improve farm incomes and strengthen regional food economies.

This panel will share their experiences and learnings as well as ways for investors and capital providers to better serve agricultural infrastructure enterprises.

Food waste and food insecurity education

Join the Center for Environmental Law at the Vermont Law School (VLS) on August 4th for one last session of the Hot Topics in Environmental Law Summer Education Series.

This free course focuses on global best practices to combat food waste and food security. It will be led by Emily Broad Leib, founder of Harvard Law School’s Food Law and Policy Clinic and VLS’ Summer 2022 Distinguished Scholar in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems.
