RTFKT announced on Monday the Season 1 phygital Clone X fashion collection spoof, which fans can access based on their specific Clone X NFT avatar traits. Along with the announcement, RTFKT has also unveiled a 60-piece fashion collection of digital wearables from which NFT holders can craft physical goods.

Created in collaboration with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, the Clone X NFT collection consists of 20,000 3D avatars divided into eight DNA types with varying levels of rarity based on their traits.

RTFKT has released 10 collections of digital wearables based on Clone X DNAs including Human, Reptile, Robot, Alien, Murakami Drip and more. Collections include hats, t-shirts, hoodies, jackets and sneakers, which can be unlocked via the wearer’s DNA NFT traits.

With the exception of socks and hats, all wearables can be forged into physical items that will be equipped with NFC tags that wearers can attach to their NFT, giving wearers the ability to access the prizes of future and physical events, and to unlock experiences and customize avatars in the future.

Depending on the number of avatars they own and the DNA traits the avatars have, each clone bearer can expect up to two of each item from the DNA Collections plus Murakami Drip For example, those who own a Human Clone X with Murakami Drip can cut up to 31 items in total, including two sneakers, two hats, two jackets and so on.

RTFKT is also dropping 10 pairs of digital RTFKT x Nike Air Force 1 sneakers inspired by Clone X’s DNA features. The sneakers are not part of this Season 1 forge event and will remain digital for now, which will says wearers can expect them to be forged into physical sneakers in the future.

Feature holders of the Murakami Drip avatar will have access to the first-ever digital RTFKT x Murakami x Nike Air Force 1 sneakers that are part of the Murakami Drip Collection.

The cut for wearables will be shown live on Wednesday at 11:00 CET, 9:00 GMT, 5:00 ET, 2:00 PT. The mint window will be open until September 7 and physical counterfeiting of items will be open from September 7-14.

Prices for limited edition Air Force 1 sneakers range from $30 to $600, leaving some users unsatisfied. Twitter user “Lupoderoma98” said: “These prices must be a joke we are in the middle of a bear market and you guys are paying us .38 [ETH] for a shoe?? Come on we are loyal holders and you are just taking money out of our pocket. the only free merchandise is the shirt that looks like spiderman merch.”

Another Twitter user “clueless” agreed, saying: “Couldn’t agree more, most people are double figures in their purchases with clonex to boot, while they made a ton in commissions too, but they keep coming back for more money, from their holders. Charging full luxury retail prices.”

Whether it’s a cash grab or not, it’s clear there are plenty of other willing buyers as Nike racked up an impressive $185 million in revenue from NFT sales since acquiring RTFKT last year to expand its Web3 strategy. The sportswear titan tops the list of brands that have generated the most sales from NFTs.
