In a statement on the official Telegram channel, Gazprom said that by the end of the business day on August 30, Gazprom Export had not received full payment for gas supplied to NG (France) in July under existing contracts.
Gazprom’s statement added that Russian law prohibits the country’s natural gas suppliers from supplying additional gas to foreign buyers if they are not fully paid by the buyer during the contract period.
Gazprom added that it has notified NG of the complete suspension of fuel supplies from September 1 until full payment for the gas delivered.
The announcement comes hours after Gazprom said it would cut gas supplies to France.
The reduction in supply was “due to a dispute between the parties regarding the implementation of contracts,” Eng said in a statement earlier on Tuesday.
“This reduction is a logical continuation of the actions of Gazprom for several months, which does not comply with the contract and reduces the supply to many of its customers,” a source in the cabinet of the French Energy Ministry told CNN. Gazprom’s actions did not jeopardize France’s security of supply.
Eng also said that Gazprom’s reduction will not affect supply.
