ShiftKey, a technology platform that connects senior care workers seeking employment with employers, has a new round of $300 million in funding that will propel the company to its next stage of growth.

Dallas, Texas-based ShiftKey provides a platform for licensed healthcare workers, including registered nurses, certified medical assistants and clinicians, to find open shifts in skilled nursing facilities, senior living communities, clinics and hospitals. Users can select opportunities based on a number of desirable criteria, such as job level or location.

Axios first reported the news on Wednesday.

The service is similar to those offered by other workforce technology companies, including Square, which launched in 2019 with the same goal of connecting workers and communities to ease the workforce.

In June, ShiftKey invested in senior housing and care staffing company OnShift with the goal of addressing the current senior living industry staffing issues and reducing the use of third-party staffing agencies.

Through its relationship with OnShift, he says the partnership is already paying off by allowing employers to improve operations in a number of ways, from spending less time on staffing issues and more time on patient care to more closely managing costs.

“It’s a powerful tool that we believe will bring the industry to a new level of efficiency,” Ellis told Senior Housing News.

Today, three-quarters of ShiftKey’s customer base consists of skilled nurse operators, with just under a quarter in senior living and the rest in healthcare.

Majority investor Lorient Capital led the latest round of funding, which was completed in conjunction with Ares Management Secondary Fund and Pantheon. Additional backers include Clearlake Capital and Health Velocity Capital, Ellis told Senior Housing News.

ShiftKey CEO Tom Ellis told Senior Homes News that with the new funding, the company is now valued at more than $2 billion.

Ellis said ShiftKey’s scalability “transcends healthcare and has a fully licensed professional workforce ready to make a difference.”

“As ShiftKey continues to grow, we will focus on providing businesses with the tools, data and independent expertise to manage their businesses at scale and relieve their existing workforces,” said Ellis.
