Small Business Focus: Threads of Stability

MANCHESTER, Conn. (WFSB) – In this week’s Small Business Spotlight, we’re featuring Serenity Threads in Manchester.

If the beach is your happy place, Serenity Threads is the place for you.

“I was at Clinton Township Beach, my family’s beach. We went there forever. At that time I knew that I wanted to create a business and it would be a jewelry store, so I just came up with the name and sat there listening to it, trying to express my feelings. The waves and calmness of the ocean came to mind,” says owner Melissa Matarazzo.

The 23-year-old started her career three years ago while still in college.

“I knew my career path was going to be teaching, and I knew I’d have winter off, so I thought it was the best thing to do to fill my time,” Matarazzo says.

She says she has had a love for jewelry since childhood.

“I got my first set of ornaments for Christmas. I still have the original pears that came with the kit. I remember painting them with nail polish because I wanted them to be cool and pink, and the polish is still there, and I still use it to make all these jewelry t stability threads,” Matarazzo says.

Matarazzo even donates to charity. She has a PRIDE collection, a breast cancer collection and a beach collection. She says she will take a portion of the sales and give it to charities.

Her store has a beachy vibe, and her jewelry is made of stainless steel so it can be worn underwater.

“My best selling item here is the siren earrings. Each piece is labeled, and you can see that on my website,” Marazzo says.
