According to CompTIA’s “State of the Tech Workforce Canada” report, the tech workforce in Canada is expected to continue its growth trajectory through the remainder of 2022.
The report projects tech jobs will account for 6.3 percent of Canada’s workforce by 2021.
Gordon Pelosi, senior VP of employer engagement at CompTIA, said: “The dramatic rebound in employment is a clear sign of how important technology is to every business and industry.” “Companies were quick to expand their technology teams as business conditions improved, adding talent in critical areas such as cybersecurity, information, technology services and technology support.
Employer postings for technology positions increased by 59%, or 54,552 jobs, in 2021, while postings for all occupations increased by 50%.
“Employment options in technology are plentiful at all career levels, offering good salaries and advancement opportunities for individuals with experience under their belts from senior positions to entry-level openings,” Pelosi said.
Among metropolitan areas, Toronto has the highest share of technology employment as a share of total employment at 10%, followed by Montreal at 8.3%, Vancouver at 7.8%; and Calgary, 6.4%. The concentration of technology workers in these areas is higher than the national average of 6.3%.
CompTIA projects technology jobs to grow 1.5 percent in the second half of 2022. Toronto also leads in project technology hiring. CompTIA estimates the state will add 5,756 technology jobs this year. Vancouver will gain 3,621 tech jobs and Montreal will add 2,705.
