Tech men and women second at Carroll Invitational


HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Tech women’s and men’s golf teams finished second today at the Carroll College Invitational at Bill Roberts Golf Course. The tournament featured five members of the conference in golf and featured Rocky Mountain College as the team to beat in the conference.

Rocky leads the women’s tournament with a 298, the Orediggers are second at 321, Carroll is just two strokes behind Tech at 323 and Providence is a distant fourth at 418.

Take one look at the leaderboard and you’ll see why Rocky holds it because the top four golfers are all Rocky Bears. Claire Wright set the pace with a three-under 69, Valentina Zuleta was one over with a 73, Breanna Jensen was tied for third with a 75 and teammate Tayla Potgieter tied for fourth with a 76. Montana Tech’s Cody Hoagland is tied for fifth place with Makayla. 77’s with Christiansen of Carroll.

Orediger Emma Wood cracked the ten in a three-way tie for tenth with two more rookie golfers. Franchi Certin was tied for 13th with an 83, Emily Kelly tied for 16th with an 84. Samantha Moore carded an 87, Kennedy Liane finished the round with an 89, and Samantha Benson finished with a 93.

The Rocky boys took first-day honors at 282, followed by Montana Tech by eleven strokes at 293, Northern third at 312, host Carroll at 320 and Providence at 340.

Montana Tech; Blake Loberg tops the leaderboard with a 4-under 68. The top 6 golfers will shoot Rocky Mountain’s William Dexheimer with a 3-under 69 on the opening day. 2 with the Bears’ Hayden Driver and the Saints’ Leo Wershay. Rookie Aidan McDonagh is one of the first day under 71.

Orediger Nick Pasquarello is one over for 8th place (71). Jess Rhodes and Digger teammate JR Small are tied for 12th with the rookie golfer at 74. Diggers Matt Hobbs and Joe Opitz combined once in 75.
