Tech will face Delaware on Thursday night at Thompson Field

A bird’s-eye view
First meeting since 1994: Virginia Tech sits at 0-1 in the all-time series against Delaware, having last faced the Blue Roosters in 1994 at Thompson Field. The Hokies fell to the Blue Roosters 3-1. Since then, the Hokies have not lost to a Colonial Athletic Association school since 2004. The last time they faced a CAA school, the Hokies beat William & Mary 4-3 in the 2022 season opener.

Delaware (1-0-1): Delaware opened the 2022 season with a 3-0 win over Delaware State. The Blue Roosters scored 11 goals in a 26-6 win over the Hornets in total possession. Delaware went 1-1 against Villanova, the Blue Roosters going 12-10. Delaware is coming off a 5-11-2 season in 2021. The team’s leading scorer, Lauren Krinsky, graduated last year, but the team retained its top scorer, Sarah D’Apollina. Delaware was picked to finish seventh in the CAA Conference preseason poll, sixth behind Elon.

Virginia Tech (1-0-1) The Hokies return to Thompson Field after a 0-0 draw against Indiana. Tech outshot Indiana 19-5 on 10 shots in the final 30 minutes. The Hokies, who took more than half of their shots in the second half, denied their opponents any goals in the second half.
