Tech’s men finish second in Helena

HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Tech men’s golf team wrapped up the Carroll College Invitational today at Bill Roberts Golf Course. The Orediggers finished second behind Rocky Mountain.

Oredigers shot 297 in the third round to finish with 876 (+12) for the tournament. Battlingen Bears finished the tournament with a final score of 285 on 838 (-26).

“Our guys grinded hard today and finished second,” said the head coach Sean Ryan.

Rocky Hayden’s driver won the race with a final score of 206 (-10). The Bears had six of the top five golfers.

Matt Hobbs He was the only golfer to make the top Rookie team. Hobbs finished with a 217 (+1) in a three-way tie for fourth place.

“Hobbs finished in the top five for the second race in a row and we had four players finish 10th, Jas, JR and Gabe in 14th.”

“We are getting closer and closer to finding out who is the right line-up for us but we have so much depth that I have scored five in every competition so it is a difficult decision for me. But having so many talented players is a big problem.

“As a team we were 15 balls better than last weekend which is huge. We keep getting better and better and that’s all I can ask for.

The Orediggers are off next week before the final Frontier Conference tournament of the season. Montana Tech travels to Billings on Oct. 3rd to the Rocky Mountain Invitational at Eugene Golf Club.
