Come inside. The Texas Tech women’s soccer team held a 17-6 shot advantage but dropped a 1-0 decision to Arizona in its opener at the John Walker Soccer Complex.

Key Moment/Game: Megan Shelf, who was yellow carded in the first half, scored the game-winner in the 69th minute. Maddie Coleno chased down a rebound that appeared to go out of bounds before chipping into the middle of the box, where Shelf pushed it past Texas Tech goalkeeper Madison White.

Taylor Zdrojewski finished the night with four goals, including two on goal. Another Schultz shot ended the threat as Arizona goalkeeper Hope Heasley cleared the ball.
Texas Tech coach Tom Stone on the loss: “I mean, it’s a bitter pill, right? It’s not a good story to get outscored seventeen to six. And it just highlights how well Arizona played — even though they didn’t create much — they played well. And they deserve credit. They’re holding the ball and bothering us with their fast guys where our fast guys are.” But when you see them get as many chances as not many balls, it’s disappointing because this is a game you have to win. That’s why it’s a bitter pill to swallow because we certainly didn’t create enough in the final third to get the win, and we gave up in the last 10 minutes. I thought we were heroes. Goal.”
What’s next: Texas Tech (1-1) is scheduled to host New Mexico (1-1) on Thursday at 7 p.m. Arizona (2-0) is slated to play Nebraska on the road at 6 p.m. Thursday.
